I actually like being alone, I get energy from being alone. I don't get energy from being around people.

I hope that my songs are reaching people in a way that's powerful because I want people to have an escape, even if it's just for a couple minutes. For me, when I listen to music, it completely takes over my world. It's my way of meditating.

I've been really into this French singer Fishbach. I've been listening to her song Y crois-tu, this synth-pop song. I don't even know how I found her. I think someone had taken a photo of her and she was smoking a cigarette while laying down on stage with a microphone and her hair was dangling off the stage and I was like "who the fuck does this bitch think she is?" I've been obsessed with her lately and that song and hoping to see her live in Europe when I'm there.

I felt like if I didn't leave St. Louis, I'd just always be working at a grocery store and smoking cigarettes and not doing anything with my life. I feared the depression of St. Louis, because it is in a deep depression.

[on her parents, who adopted her when she was 3 and had cared for her since shortly after her birth] Because there are so many decades of difference between us, I became more interested in what their childhood was like. I fantasized about what it was like to be young in the '30s and '50s, more so than other kids my age.

My mother just has this capacity for children.
