Brandon Mendez Homer began his acting career in an unusual fashion: by quitting his finance job after he received life advice from then Governor of Massachusetts, Deval Patrick. He enrolled into The Juilliard School several months later, auditioning with a monologue written by Vin Diesel, from the short film Multi-Facial (1995).Brandon was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. His ancestry includes African-American, Afro-Honduran, Afro-Caribbean, and Afro-Asian descent. He grew up in socially, economically, and politically contrasting neighborhoods throughout Boston. In Brookline, with his Grandparents, prominent figures and civic leaders in the black community. In Roxbury, Dorchester, and Mattapan, with his single-mother and older brother.At the age of 19, he started working in the Finance Industry as a Personal Banker in Downtown Boston. In the evenings, he'd train at The Michael Chekhov Actor's Studio Boston, under Scott Fielding. The studio was located in Boston's historic Tremont Temple Baptist Church, the first integrated church in America. Brandon took every class the studio had to offer, training 20 hours a week in various disciplines including Meisner, Chekhov, Analysis, Movement, and Film.On the advice of his grandmother and with her promise of an introduction, he read the book "A Reason to Believe". A memoir by the first black Governor of the State of Massachusetts, Deval Patrick. After meeting with Governor Patrick, he found the courage to resign from the bank and pursue his dreams. Several months later he sent out one application - to The Juilliard School - and earned a spot in Group 48.He credits his uncle Brian Homer as his inspiration for wanting to become an actor.
