As a freshman, Chris played in all 13 games, averaging a team-best 7.0 yards per carry. On September 3, 2016 against Hawaii, Chris rushed for 112 yards on eight carries and two touchdowns, making him on the third true freshman in school history to rush for 100 yards in their collegiate debut, joining Walter Cross and Chris Perry.
