[on 'Club Med'] I had gotten this Facebook message from somebody who was, like, angry about the new record. All I said to them in a very benevolent way was "Just listen to it three or four more times, and I think you might get it". And then they wrote me back a week later, and they were like, "Oh, yeah, sorry. Don't worry about it." I think that, in a sense , it's still pop music, but 'pop music' means different things to different people. That could mean Kate Perry to one person, or it could mean anything that isn't atonal. Genres are weird.

When it comes to causes, there are some that are quite political and they draw really drastic opinions. But when it comes to things like music therapy or promoting music in public schools, it's a kind of a no-brainer. I don't know anyone that goes, 'No, that's not good! I would hate it if my kid was happier because of music.'

[on 'What Happens Next?', a documentary about his life] Brent Hodge and John Siddall did a fabulous job convincing the world and me that I was worth documenting. I can't thank them enough for their dedicated and skilled work. I'm flattered and proud of the result.

When I was in university, I probably played an unhealthy amount of poker. I appreciate it as a metaphor for life. We are always playing the hand that we are dealt the best that we can, in relation to the hand that everybody else has also been dealt. Life presents issues and problems and anxieties, but also opportunities and cool things.

(on receiving four Juno Awards nominations in 2012) it's a slightly more mainstream music crowd than I operate in normally. But that doesn't taint it at all. If anything, it's exciting to be recognized on that kind of national TV level.
