Justin Edgar graduated from Portsmouth University in 1996 with a First Class degree in Film. In 1998 he directed the award winning short comedy Dirty Phonecalls which led to him becoming the youngest director ever to direct a major UK feature film aged just 26. Large was backed by Film Four and went straight in at number one in the UK video charts. It sold to over twenty countries around the world.Justin went on to direct the award-winning 2005 short Special People, followed by searing gun crime drama The Ends which won Best Short at the 2005 Raindance Film Festival in London and made headlines on BBC news and in newspapers for its visceral depiction of a double shooting on a South London estate. For that film he spent three months on the Heygate Estate at Elephant and Castle working with young offenders.His second feature film Special People premiered at the 2007 Edinburgh International Film Festival in competition for the Michael Powell Award and won best film at the 2008 Britspotting Film Festival in Berlin and Perspektiva in Moscow.His third feature film We are the Freaks premiered at the 2013 Edinburgh International Film Festival and went on to win Best Feature at the 2013 Las Vegas Film Festival. It was picked up for distribution by Metrodome.Justin is hard of hearing and has a lifelong interest in disability cinema.
