Kiran Rao graduated with an economics major from the Sophia College for Women (Mumbai) in 1995. She also received her Masters at AJK Mass Communication Research Center at Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi.Kiran Rao started her career as an assistant director in 2001. She met actor Aamir Khan on sets of Lagaan (2001). They were married in December 2005. Kiran Rao is the second wife of Aamir Khan. After suffering a couple of miscarriages, the couple had a son born via surrogate on December 1, 2011.Since 2001, she has been assisting in prominent movies. She scripted, directed, and produced the acclaimed Dhobi Ghat (2010).
