Biography
Rebecca Gibson
Rebecca Gibson is an award-winning actor, producer, and writer, a director, and a mom to two daughters. Having started as an actor in the theatre, Rebecca moved to film and television, though she continues to write, direct, and produce for the theatre including her award-winning script The Naked Woman, and productions of The Normal Heart (producer), Rent (producer/director), and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (producer/director). Rebecca won a Blizzard Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Murdoch Mysteries: Except the Dying, the film that launched the long-running series. She met her husband Kyle Irving on the set of the award-winning series Tipi Tales, which ran for three seasons and brought indigenous spiritual teachings to children around the world. Her documentary Daphne Korol: The Drama Queen of Winnipeg earned her a Windy Award nomination for directing. She has several projects in development as a writer, including the feature film Skinner (for which Rebecca was the only North American invited to attend the prestigious eQuinoxe summit in Austria), Jane Garbage (which Rebecca will also direct, with the development support of Super Channel and Rogers, winner of a screenwriting award at the Vancouver Women in Film Festival), and Vulnerable Persons (with Kyle Nobess, star of Mohawk Girls). Rebecca also wrote, directed, and produced the digital documentary series Child First, which premiered at the Understanding the Disability Trajectory of First Nations Families of Children with Disabilities National Summit. Rebecca is a partner in Red Czarina Entertainment, whose feature film H&G premiered at the Vancouver International Film Festival, and played several other fests including the LA Femme Film Fest, the Canadian Film Fest in Toronto. It was nominated for Best Canadian Feature at the Female Eye Film Festival, and won a Silver Remi at Houston WorldFest. Rebecca is a co-creator, and a writer and director of CBC/APTN's Taken, a series that centres on Canada's missing and murdered indigenous women and girls.
