You can have a good script and a great director, wonderful cast and music and so on, but it just doesn't seem to come together. Most films, I believe, just come out quite mediocre. If you get one or two that are any good in a year, that's a pretty good year.

When you dramatize contentious recent history, somebody is going to be offended, somebody is going to say that you shouldn't have done it or that you have skewed it in one particular direction. There's no way around that, and the only way to avoid that controversy is not to do it.
