Hailing from southern California, Sumiko Braun is best known as Deanna in the sci-fi cult classic Sharknado (SYFY). She recently booked a role on the series Secrets and Lies (ABC) and has previously appeared on Extant (CBS). Sumiko can also be seen in various national commercials for Nike, Samsung, Dodge RAM, Courtyard Marriott, Powerade, etc. Additionally, she produced and acted in the neo-noir thriller This Last Lonely Place, which premiered at the 2014 Newport Beach Film Festival and screened at Cannes.Stage credits include the West Coast Premiere of "Dirty" (Zephyr Theatre), "Distracted" (Pasadena Playhouse), and "Tales of a Fourth Grade Lesbo" (Pasadena Playhouse, Highways Performance Space). Sumiko trained at Howard Fine Acting Studio and Beverly Hills Playhouse and studied improv with Upright Citizens Brigade.In addition to acting and filmmaking, Sumiko holds an M.A. in Asian American Studies from UCLA and teaches creative writing, performance, and video production at alternative high schools in Los Angeles.
