She was accepted to Harvard University, where she hoped to study Irish literature, but had to withdraw in order to take care of her sister Becca after the death of their mother and abandonment by their father. They live in San Francisco, where she worked as a bartender until she was intentionally hit with a car by Sarah Corvus, costing her her legs, right arm, right ear, and right eye. These were replaced by her boyfriend Will Anthros with bionic prosthetics. She later reluctantly agreed to join the Berkut Group, a private intelligence organization that supplied the bionics, after realizing that her life was going nowhere.
