I got dragged into singing. Amen Corner didn't start as a pop band. We did Stax and blues stuff. Then we were persuaded to record "Bend Me Shape Me", which I never liked. I was embarrassed to be a pop star.

Amen Corner split partly because of a lack of credibility. We didn't write the songs and you could feel that musically things were changing and leaving us behind. But the main reason was that, after we had hits, everything on the business side was a disaster. We got sold to Don Arden who then sold us on to Andrew Oldham. But the main reason was that, after we had hits, everything on the business side was a disaster. We got sold to Don Arden who then sold us on to Andrew Oldham. It should have been a wonderful time but I ended up thinking, 'if this is success, I'd rather be somewhere else.'

Andy Fairweather Low
Andy Fairweather-Low learned to play guitar and began his music career in a band called The Taffbeats. He came to fame as the singer in the band Amen Corner, who had hit singles between 1967 and 1969 with "Gin House Blues", "The World Of Broken Hearts", "Bend Me Shape Me", "High In The Sky", "(If Paradise Is) Half As Nice" and "Hello Suzie". At the end of the decade the band separated and Andy launched a solo career, which produced the hit singles "Reggae Tune" in 1974 and "Wide Eyed And Legless" in 1975. In the 1980s, financial problems forced him to finish his solo career but he continued to work in the music business, touring as a guitarist with stars such as Roger Waters, George Harrison, Van Morrison and Eric Clapton.
