Benny Golson
Jazz composer ("I Remember Clifford", for the late jazz trumpeter Clifford Brown), conductor, saxophonist and arranger, educated at Howard University. He was a saxophonist in the orchestras of "Bull Moose" Jackson, Tadd Dameron, Lionel Hampton, Johnny Hodges, Earl Bostic, Dizzy Gillespie and Art Blakey,then formed his own quartet in 1959, then formed a jazztet with Art Farmer. He has made many recordings. Joining ASCAP in 1958, his other popular-song and instrumental compositions include "Stablemates", "Whisper Not", "Killer Joe", "Five Spot After Dark", and "Fair Weather".
