[When asked if Czerny is drawn to playing very damaged characters]: Yes, I am. I always have been. I'm drawn to the layers underneath the facade. And this [Hollywood] is a great town to be in if you're after that, because we have people mutilating themselves beautifully to appear as though they've never had a difficult moment in their lives. And yet it's only when you explore those difficult moments that you actually get over the hurt. And so that's what fascinates me, is people who haven't dealt with their hurt.

I wasn't one of those people who went to see a play and said, 'I want to be an actor.' I fell into it.

I've refused roles because they're too simplistic.

My dad thought I'd end up in the poorhouse or in doughnut shops with a bag full of reviews.

The bad guys I play don't want to be bad. It's the struggle between the part of them that's an animal and the part that's the intellect that's interesting.
