Born and raised in Chicago, John Liang is an honors graduate of New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. His thesis film "Like Father Like Edison" won the Audience Award at the Chicago Reel Shorts Film Festival in 2006. While living in New York, he worked as a writer for The Onion News Network. He was an associate producer on Collin Schiffli's "Animals", which won a Special Jury Award at the 2014 SXSW Film Festival. "Recovery" is his first feature film as writer and director.
