Matthew MacFadzean was born in North York, Ontario, Canada. He received his B.A. in English Literature at McGill University in Montreal and then went on to study acting at the National Theatre School of Canada. After working many years in the theatre, he attended the Canadian Film Centre, founded by Norman Jewison, where he studied writing for television.
