Mekia Cox was born on November 18, 1981 in Saint Croix, U.S. Virgin Island, but moved to Orlando, Florida at age 7. As a child, she had roles in various Nickelodeon shows such as Kenan & Kel (1996). She is a graduate of Dr. Phillips High School and earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Florida State University.She is known for her work in Crazy, Stupid, Love. (2011), Battlefield America (2012), and I Kissed a Vampire (2010). She is also known for recurring roles on 90210 (2008) as Sasha, Secrets and Lies (2015) as Amanda Warner and Chicago Med (2015) as Dr. Robin Charles.
