Biography
Richard Raymond
Richard Raymond started his career at Pinewood Studios when he was 15 years old, establishing himself as a regular face there while interning on movies such as Richard Attenborough's Shadowlands, Neil Jordan's Interview With The Vampire, Luc Besson's The Fifth Element and Kenneth Branagh's Frankenstein.Raymond applied what he'd learned at Pinewood to his own films, working with the crews and their equipment on weekends. He completed his first 35mm production at age 16.In 2009 Raymond produced the award winning feature Heartless, starring Jim Sturgess, Noel Clarke, Timothy Spall and Eddie Marsan. The film was distributed by LionsGate UK and IFC in the US.In 2015 Raymond marked his debut as director with the acclaimed feature film Desert Dancer, based on the remarkable true story of the Iranian dancer Afshin Ghaffarian. The film was acquired and distributed by Relativity Media and selected for opening night 30th anniversary Santa Barbara International Film Festival. Desert Dancer was runner up Audience Award at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, and was nominated for the Golden Frog Best Film at the prestigious Camerimage. It won Best Film Choreography at The Fred and Adele Astaire Awards. Desert Dancer was also critically praised with Pete Hammond from Deadline claiming "A real screen triumph, powerful, inspiring and beautifully told!" Scott Feinberg at The Hollywood Reporter said Raymond's debut film was "Impressive and moving, a poignant celebration of freedom of expression."
