While much is known about the real Al Capone, the fictionalized version comes into Nucky Thompson's world in 1920 while serving as the 21-year-old driver and bodyguard of Chicago gangster and bootlegger, Big Jim Colosimo and his associate Johnny Torrio. Capone, a trusted associate in the Chicago mob, befriends Nucky Thompson's protege, Jimmy Darmody, relating with Jimmy about being a veteran who served in The Great War, claiming that the scars on his face were the result of a German bayonet -- which is false. Al and Jimmy get together to make a big, bold move that shakes things up in Atlantic City and New York.Capone mostly remains based in Chicago, but makes appearances in New York and Atlantic City as his influence continues to grow.Portrayed with the ruthlessness Capone is famous for, he incites violence in many instances and doesn't hesitate to carry it out when he deems it necessary. Capone is loyal to his associates and goes to great lengths to defend them. Capone is also shown as a tender, caring and even emotional father to his son, who is deaf. Capone first struggles with this revelation, believing his son's impairment to be punishment for his own sins.
