In the book TIMELINE by Michael Chrichton one sees more fully why Marek made the choice to remain in 1357. In the 21st century, he was a man out of his time. He was not only an archeologist but a man who lived and practiced the codes and tenets of the Middle Ages. He was a swordsman, archer, scholar, linguist. He truly was going home when he went back and chose to stay.
