Annie is a former girlfriend of Oscar Diggs. Before his disappearance from Kansas, she tells him of her recent engagement to John Gale - assumed to be the brother of Henry Gale and his wife, Emily. It is assumed that Annie would eventually give birth to a girl child, Dorothy, who is sent to live with her aunt and uncle after her parents' untimely death.
