Aphrodite is the greek goddess of love and beauty. Her roman name is Venus. She is married to Hephestus, god of the forge, but has affairs with mortals and other gods, especially Ares, god of war. Her son is Cupid or Eros. Paris (of Troy) chose Aphrodite over Hera and Athena as the fairest goddess, and was given Helen (of the Greeks) as a reward, which began the Trojan War. Aphrodite was born of the sea foam, where the blood from Uranus' severed genitals had splashed. She landed on Cyprus and is sometimes called Cyprian .
