She is the owner and barmaid of Fitzgerald's, the hotel which is the centre of Ballykissangel's activity.Assumpta is not a religious lady, and has many problems with the Church and its beliefs. However she becomes quite close to English-born curate, Father Peter Clifford.Assumpta is the confidante of almost everyone in town.In series 3 she marries her old college boyfriend, Leo McGarvey, but things quickly go sour in the marriage. Three episodes later they have separated although she does chase after him to discuss their marriage.
