August March is a convicted smuggler of Asian art sent to prison by Steve McGarrett in the 1975 episode Wooden Model of a Rat of the original Hawaii Five-O series. The character, newly released from prison after 30 years, appears in the 2012 episode Kalele of the updated Hawaii Five-0 series. In the 2012 episode, March initially appears as a gentle old ex-con who has learned his lesson, but in the end shows his true colors by making off with a trove of blood diamonds after murdering a woman who contacted him about fencing the gems.Ed Asner portrays August March in both episodes. The 2012 episode incorporates clips of Asner in the original series to establish the March character's background.
