Brendan Frye is the main character,portrayed by Joseph Gorden-Levitt, in Rian Johnson's 2005 film noir, Brick.He is the teenaged equivalent of the hard-nosed detectives found in 1940s-1950s film noirs. He is highly cynical, always using his wit and smarts to belittle those around him. He is also a definate loner, and despises almost everyone around him. He is shown to eat lunch alone behind the gym every day at school.When his ex-girlfriend Emily is murdered, Brendan uses all of his detective skills, and the information that can be given to him by his friend The Brain, to solve the crime.Brendan's search takes him into the bowels of a high school drug ring run by the ominous Pin. He also comes face to face with Pin's violent henchman Tug, the chronically drugged-up Dode, the seductive villainess Kara and the femme fatale Laura. His clash with these characters starts a chain reaction that escalates into a showdown in which there's not much chance of coming out clean.
