Edward Jellico is a Starfleet captian. In 2367 he was key in creating the armistice between the United Federation of Planets and the Cardassian union. In 2369, Vice Admiral Alynna Nechayev installs Jellico as captain of the Enterprise because of his expertise in dealing with the Cardassians when Captain Jean-Luc Picard is assigned to an undercover mission on Celtris III. As captain, Jellico chafes many members of the crew who do not care for his authoritarian by-the-book style. In particular, Commander William Riker struggles to adjust to his new rules.
