Captain of the L.A.P.D., captain Diel is a respectable aging man who is in control of the department as well as assigning cases and ordering his lower ranked officers to do their duty.His respect for the L.A.P.D. rises when he defends his job against FBI agents who attempt to give off a petty assignment linked to the Consul's daughter's case. Upon seeing Carter however, Diel accepts. Much like the other cops in the department, Diel is non too enthusiastic of Carter's risky methods and loudmouth humor- he even participates with a phone conversation in which Carter is ridiculed by his fellow cops.While Diel's opinion at the end of the movie for Carter and Lee saving the day is ever expressed, he does briefly return in the third movie Rush Hour 3 in the same position. Older and more tired, it is stated by Carter that Diel's wife left him which is the biggest deduction for his cantankerous demeanor.
