Colonel Abraham Curtis is a reinvention of Stephen King's novel character, Colonel Abraham Kurtz, who was intended as a psychopathic and insane soldier who had been battling aliens since the 1960s, in the vein of actor James Woods. In the movie he is played as a more straightforward villain by Morgan Freeman!In the movie, Curtis arrives to quarantine Jefferson Tract in the event of a UFO having crashlanded in the mountains of Massachussetts. He believes that the only way to save the world is to kill everybody that has contracted the Ripley fungus (also know as Byrus in the novel) before they give birth to the lifeforms known as Shit Weasels (aka Byrum).Coming to the belief that he is insane, after hearing Curtis's views and witnessing him punishing a soldier by shooting his fingers off, his second in command Lt. Owen Underhill, informs the US military before rescuing one of the lead characters and attempting to hunt down Mr Grey before he can infect the world's water supply.Curtis goes over the edge and attempts to hunt down Underhill and his passengers to kill them all!
