Russell (played by Ted Danson) is the Night Shift Supervisor who replaced the demoted Catherine Willows.Russell is a married man from Seattle, Washington, with four children and one granddaughter. He was raised and home-schooled on a tour bus.D.B. Russell makes his debut appearance in the first episode of Season 12 titled 73 Seconds .D.B. is short for Diebenkorn as per episode 12.14 Seeing Red. He usually insists people call him D.B. but told a little girl named Molly his real name in Season 13's episode titled Backfire.
