Buddy Russo is based) was one of the key NYPD Task Force members who broke the real French Connection case.Eddie Egan appears in the film in a cameo as Doyle and Russo's supervisor Simonson, and Sonny Grosso appears in the film in a cameo as another of Doyle and Russo's supervisors, Klein.
