Doc's real name is Gerome Crystal (spelling on both uncertain: Season 4/5 ep 24 'Change of Address') is an inventor and tinkerer. Doc moved to the sea shore; followed by best friend and neighbor Ned Shimelfinney; who came to help Doc with his Marine Biology career; which did not work out. After which time he opened his workshop; eventually meeting Gobo Fraggle.
