Charles McNider was a skilled physician, until he treated an informant from the mob. One night as he was with his patient, a grenade shattered through the window killing the informant and blinding Doctor McNider. However he soon discovered his blindness only applied when he was in the light, in total darkness his vision was perfect. He then developed special goggles and black out bombs so that he could fight criminals on even terms. Charles McNider is the champion of justice Doctor Mid-Nite.
