Flor is a poor, beautiful, mexican woman that lives her life for her daughter. She wishes her daughter to be like her and keep with her mexican roots. Her daughter, Christina, is somewhat manipulated and spoiled by Deborah Claskey, which infuriorates Flor. Flor attempts to race Deborah to the beach house and loses, proving that she can not beat Deborah and must leave. Flor has strong feelings for John Claskey, Deborah's soft spoken husband, and admits that she loves him. Flor decides to take her daughter away from the Claskey's without one word to Deborah. In the end she tells her daughter that she wishes for her to be like Flor herself, but that she will accept Christina for whatever she will become. Flor and Christina embrace on the bus ride home.
