Frank first appears in the pilot episode as Officer Martin when he is a patient, having shot himself. He is Med Student Carter's first patient and first IV attempt. Retired Officer Martin returns to County General in Such Sweet Sorrow (#6.21), when he is hired as the new Desk Clerk. He adds a new level of humor and grace to ground control in the ER. Tears flow when Frank has a heart attack.
