Fred gates grew up in the Atlanta area. He married Sarah Lee Polk at a young age while working for a produce company as a truck driver. Fred was promoted to vice-president of the Southern Hawaiian Pineapple Company and was tranferred to Hawaii by his boss Jack Kelman. Fred moved to Hawaii with his wife and son Chad where his family became estabished as wealthy and respectable among the high society families surrounding them.
