The Ghost of Hamlet's Father is the late King of Denmark. (His name is also Hamlet.) He walks the ramparts of the castle of Elsinore at night. He is unable to find peace because he died unaneled, (that is, without receiving the Last Rites, which would have forgiven all his sins). As a result, he is condemned to the fires of Purgatory until his sins are purged. However, that is not the reason he walks the castle ramparts. He does so because he wishes to speak to his son, Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, and inform him that he (the Ghost) was murdered by his own brother, Claudius, who also seduced and married Hamlet's mother, Queen Gertrude. He wishes Hamlet to avenge the murder.For some reason, half the quotes on the Quotes page for this character belong not to the Ghost of Hamlet's Father, but to Claudius.
