One of King Lear's three daughters in Shakespeare's King Lear . She and her sister Regan flatter Lear so that they can each inherit a large part of his kingdom when he dies, while Cordelia, the third daughter, is honest about her feelings for her father, and is exiled by him. Goneril and Regan eventually throw Lear out of his own castle, and Cordelia raises an army against her two sisters to restore Lear to the throne.
