Having had his dreams of a medicine career dashed by becoming a WWII pilot, Guido became a mechanic instead. He had a loveless marriage to his childhood friend and, thanks to his incompetence, couldn't save her from death, and even scorns his dead wife in favour of Roslyn. He is a bitter and unpleasant man, although more intelligent than his friends.Many scenes crucial to Guido's development are sadly lost, due to Marilyn Monroe's fear of being upstaged by Eli Wallach, so it is not known if there are any possible redeeming qualities to the character.
