Hyacinth Bucket is a social-climbing snob. She insists that her surname is pronounced 'Bouquet'. Her primary aim in life is to impress people especially those of the upper classes. She tries to give the impression that she is of high social standing however she is of fairly average status. Hyacinth tries to avoid her poorer relatives and hides the fact that she was born into the working-class in order to maintain her social status.Hyacinth is the eldest of four sisters: in birth order, herself, Daisy, Violet and Rose.
