Jeremy is the youngest son of Patrick Tripp Darling III and his wife Leticia. He is the brother of Patrick (IV), Karen, Brian, and Juliet, his twin sister. Although family attorney Nick George labels him well-behaved, Jeremy is often anything but.In the pilot episode, Jeremy is arrested for immigrant trafficking after winning a yacht in a poker game. At his 25th birthday party (for which he had a portion of the Brooklyn Bridge shut down), he is again arrested, this time while he is drunk and clad in only his black boxer-briefs. He also manages to convince Nick's wife, Lisa, into assisting him in a scheme to pose as a painter and subsequently smoking pot with him at her workplace. With Lisa's help and the aid of Clark, the family driver, Jeremy attempts to emulate the life of someone who is poor, only revealing how ignorant he is about the middle class; he immaturely cannot imagine any suffering greater than his won.Although initially it seems that Jeremy is a shallow character who only cares about partying, he surprisingly possesses a naive depth. He craves the approval of his father, but lacks the ambition to excel in any profession. Instead of seeing his inherited wealth as an asset, he sees it as a yoke which prevents him from developing genuine relationships with women. After having his heart broken, he irrationally lies to a woman about who he is so that she will love him for who he isn't.His best friend is Juliet ( Jules ), his sister who at times also seems burdened by the family billions. The twins take turns as the voice of reason for each other, often ignoring the advice he or she is giving.Jeremy's choice to begin working for his father as a lowly parking attendant shows that he has plenty of room to grow, but is gradually heading in the right direction.
