Jeremy Downs is a 19-year-old boy living in a halfway house in Miami, who has previously served 4 years in a Juvenile Centre for the murder of another boy when Jeremy was 15 years old.Dexter sees Jeremy's knife-work as that of a 'young virtuoso'.Jeremy steals Dexter's wallet when they first meet, and Dexter later confronts the boy and gets it back. During this, however, Jeremy reveals a secret about his past ( You gonna fuck me, faggot!? 'Cause I killed the last guy who raped me! ) that makes Dexter realise Jeremy is just a traumatised boy who is 'taking out the garbage', a lot like him.Jeremy kills someone again, and while Dexter (in disguise) tries to ambush him, he is arrested by Sgt. Doakes.He receives a telling-off from Dexter during an unrecorded interrogation, who gives him advice (found in the quotes section of this page) about killing. Jeremy also reveals that the trauma of the rape left him 'empty inside', and that he thought killing was a way in which to make him feel whole again, although it didn't.Jeremy later follows Dexter's advice, and kills somehow who 'deserves to die' - himself.
