John is the helicopter pilot assigned to the outpost to assist both the military and the science team but as a divide has grown between both teams, he and his friend Phillip McDermott stay out of the way rather than take a side. He is an easy going and sensible man whose only priority is survival and refuses to put himself in unnecessary danger, that is unless the military thugs decide to start backing up their threats!
