Julian is an attorney and law professor at the fictitious Lancer University. As an attorney with a social conscience, he does not have a lucrative law practice, preferring instead to pay his bills by teaching while taking low-paying (or pro bono) cases for the satisfaction of upholding the honor of the law. He is a mentor to Marti Perkins, the show's heroine, who is a pre-law student. Lancer University is supposed to be in Memphis, Tennessee, and Julian has a mellifluous southern accent, a folksy delivery, and a mocking high sarcasm, which is probably his courtroom manner as well. As played by Gale Harold, he is also extremely handsome and sexy. Later on in the show, he gets into a relationship with Marti. At this point, he is no longer her teacher.
