Kikuchiyo is the 7th samurai recruited. He's turned down at first, as he's the only one of the seven who's not really a samurai, but is eventually accepted by the group after trailing them for quite a while. He turns out to be a farmer's son (despite a fake birth certificate as a samurai), and a good fighter. Mercurial, temperamental and passionate, Kikuchiyo empathises deeply with the plight of the farmers, and is therefore fighting for more than just attention and glory. He can't remember his real name, having inadvertently adopted the name of a little girl after randomly pointing to somewhere on the scroll.
