Glen Campbell plays Texas Ranger La Boeuf in the 1969 version, Matt Damon in the 2010 remake. He is the antithesis to Rooster Cogburn's (John Wayne's) drunken, raw, gritty U.S. Marshal. His wholesomeness and polite manner lead to his eventual demise. It is this personality that help break the barrier between John Wayne's and Kim Darby's characters. La Boeuf served in the Confederate army under General Kirby Smith.
