Director Leon Vance was previously Special Agent Vance with San Diego NCIS. Leon was promoted to Director by The Secretary of The Navy (SECNAV) when Director Jenny Shepherd was killed in the Mojave Desert in 2008. Leon's first order of business as Director was to shred a note of reprimand and to destroy Gibbs Team. Dinozzo became agent afloat; Mossad liason position was terminated, sending Ziva back to Tel Aviv; and McGee was moved to Cyber Crimes Unit. Leon has since restored the team and become an invaluable asset to NCIS even though he is a little rough around the edges.
