Detective Taylor is the last member of the NYPD hired during Rudy Giuliani's term as Mayor of New York City. He has one son, Reed Garrett. His wife, Claire Conrad Taylor was killed in the 911 attacks.Reed Garrett is not Mac's son. Claire had him and gave him up for adoption before she and Mac ever met. In trying to locate his birth mother, Reed found Mac. Sadly, this was a few years after Claire was killed on 9/11, however the two did form a relationship of sorts.
