Unlike the other vampires, it isn't suggested how old she is regarding when she was bitten and turned. Mae lives for the moment and concentrates on the beauty of the world around her in a way that she never could as a human. She has no problems killing to survive but clearly feels guilt when doing so, although she'd sooner be a vampire and has never looked back.
