Margaret serves as assistant to White House chief of staff Leo McGarry. Previously, she had worked with volunteers on the presidential campaign of Josiah Jed Bartlet. Margaret is recognized as highly reliable though a tad on the quirky side -- occasionally to the mild concern of McGarry. She is known for dressing a bit oddly, loving Boy George, enjoying office gossip and, most importantly, being darn good at her job.
