Max Detweiler was a fictional character in The Sound of Music. Although referred to as Uncle Max by the von Trapp children, he is not a blood relative but merely one of their father's friends. Were it not for his charm, the wealthy people on whom he openly sponges wouldn't have much use for him. Max enters the von Trapp family singers in an Austrian Folk Festival in hopes of earning a commission from the prize money. He helps the family escape from the Nazis after the performance.
