Melissa used to be Alan's receptionist. Charlie invited her for a weekend of sex and then dumped her. Alan then gives her a raise, health care and a paid vacation to keep her from quitting. After a while Alan admits his feelings for her and she became his on-and-off again sex partner/girlfriend.
